Ultimate Natural Wedding Make-Up Tips

Looking for natural make-up for your wedding? That’s awesome – you’re spoilt for choice! But wait, how on Earth do you actually choose someone? What makes us make-up artists different? Why does natural seem to have so many different looks, and why does natural sometimes look so heavy? (Thanks, Pinterest…)

Let me break it down for you. Make-up artists throw around the term ‘natural make-up’ a lot, but what the hell does it mean? It's a very broad term, and you can narrow down your search for a make-up artist by figuring out what natural means to you – use your own make-up comfort zone as a guide to figure out which one of these subcategories below you fall into. And if you never wear any make-up, start by looking into ‘no make-up make-up looks’.

For me, natural can be broken to into four subcategories:

  1. Natural edgy
This usually has a distinctive edge like a smokey eye or a red lip.

  2. Natural glam
A bit more make-up all over, edging slightly into just being glam.

  3. Natural effortless
Here we have some definition on the eyes, but skin is still natural and glossy.

  4. Natural glossy
    All about the beautiful skin!

So which one of these should you go for?

In my view, this falls between these two things:

  1. How much make-up you’re comfortable wearing.

  2. The make-up look you love but can’t achieve on your own.

When you strike the delicate balance between 1 and 2, that’s when you achieve make-up perfection.

WHO TO CHOOSE TO GET THE LOOK AND HOW TO FIND THEM?

The best resource for finding inspiration is to look at the unfiltered images of looks that actual working make-up artists post. Instagram is your friend here, and hashtags are your BFF. Connect, find artists who have time for a chat, get to know your style, and enjoy your superstar moment! The right artist will make you feel great in your own skin.

And finally, let’s never forget the golden rule: it’s only make-up and it washes off!

Love always,

Alev
